Two storefronts shutter on the Plaza. But new Baldwin Market is coming in March
Two more retailers have gone dark on the Country Club Plaza.
Standard Style, which has operated at 451 W. 47th St. since 2006, closed Sunday.
Owners Matt and Emily Baldwin said they will “move” Standard Style into a new concept called Baldwin Market which will open on the Plaza in March at 422 Nichols Road.
The new Baldwin Market is scheduled to operate until spring 2019, when the owners will debut a new Baldwin flagship store.
Locally owned Fortuity currently operates in the 422 Nichols Road space but it hopes to relocate on the Plaza.
Another longtime Plaza tenant, Talbots women’s clothing and accessories, also closed its store at 239 W. 47th St. over the weekend.
A Talbots spokeswoman said the company “could not reach an agreement with the landlord that both parties felt was equitable,” but that it will continue to explore alternatives in the Kansas City market.
In a statement, Country Club Plaza officials said: “We can confirm that Standard Style is relocating on The Plaza in 2018, while Talbots is closing. We will announce a new tenant for the Talbots space very soon.”
