Molly Bingaman’s instinctive style and easy confidence make her a natural promoter of all things beautiful. Bingaman started Ladybird Styling, ladybirdstyling.com, as a way to help people tortured by shopping trips. She says that not every client transformation will change their life, but she hopes to leave clients with a bit of self-assurance that results in a ‘wow!’ after looking in the mirror. Bingaman says a fashionista should have these five items in her closet, no matter her age, size or budget.
Dark-wash denim
A pair of dark-wash jeans is an “absolute wardrobe staple” for Bingaman. She recommends sticking to a plain pair without fancy embellishments. Finding the right cut for your body type is essential, Bingaman says.
Structured jacket
For “instant finish” to your look, Bingaman suggests buying a well-fitted blazer or jacket. She says leather, denim or moto jackets add instant shape, and safari-style jackets or casual anoraks can create a hourglass figure when worn correctly.### Neutral handbag This piece is worth the investment. Bingaman says that a bag made of leather is always a good bet. She suggests choosing a tote with texture or a slight metallic tone. Consider colors other than black and brown, such as gray or cream.
Fabulous dress
A colorful wrap dress or a classic shirtdress can brighten any closet, Bingaman says. A V neckline flatters most shoulders, and a dress cut near the knee is always proportional. “Belted styles or those that have a fabric sash highlight an already small waist or create one on a straight frame.”
Statement jewelry
Bingaman says to pick bold baubles to “punch up ordinary pieces” such as a little black dress. She warns that oversized jewelry can drown a petite frame.
