Red carpet runway Benefit for Wayside Waifs animal shelter
7:30 p.m. Friday
Recording artist and former lead singer of Vedera, Kristen May, will perform live during this runway show; the red carpet starts at 6. Local and national designers will showcase their collections. “I’m very excited that we’re partnering with Wayside Waifs,” Barber said.
After-parties
10 p.m. to 3 a.m. Friday and Saturday
The Friday party at the Dubliner in the Power & Light District follows the red carpet show. There will also be a post-runway party on Saturday night at Monaco, 334 E. 31st St.
Runway Showcase
7:30 p.m. Saturday
The main show of the week, the evening showcases local and out-of-town designers with unique fashion looks and accessories. The range of fashion will include work attire and party outfits.
Designer Trunk Show and runway finale
10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., respectively, Sunday
At the trunk show, designers who have already shown their work will have the chance to sell their off-the-runway looks.
The finale will feature design students, as well as emerging and featured designers. “I’m particularly excited to see the students’ work because they have a very new outlook on fashion,” Barber said. “It’ll be very interesting to see their perspective.”

Modeling and event planning are two of Barber’s most impressive fortes. So when the Lee’s Summit resident put on an impressive fashion show last fall to raise money for victims of the Joplin tornado, Kansas City Fashion Week came running, asking Barber to use her magic for them.
Now, as executive director of KC Fashion Week, she plans to prove to the world that you don’t have to be in L.A. or New York to see the latest fashion.
“A lot of times the Midwest isn’t really considered a hot fashion spot,” Barber said. “Our goal is to bring more awareness to Kansas City and show that … a lot of great designers from all over the country want to have their clothing in boutiques here.”
We caught up with Barber to find out the coolest events during Kansas City Fashion Week. All five are at the Gallery Event Space, 61 E. 14th St. in the Power & Light District.
