James A. Fussell’s Pop-Culture Playoffs Brackets is a new feature that launched earlier this month. Each Wednesday you can help us pit items from the worlds of TV, movies, music, celebrities, sports and more against one other. Debate your picks here or at Facebook.com/inkkc
Your picks:
“It was a tough choice between Tom Selleck (Indiana Jones) and Gwyneth Paltrow (Rose Dawson in —;Titanic’), but we finally went with Gwyneth Paltrow.” — Dana Collins
“My final four was Burt Reynolds (James Bond), Jack Nicholson (Michael Corleone in —;The Godfather’), Gene Hackman (Hannibal Lecter) and John Travolta (Forrest Gump). It was a 5th seed upset as Nicholson missed out on being the one and only Godfather!” — Peter Guirguis
“I have Nicholson for the Godfather, also. What an iconic character.” — Helena Buckett
Jim’s picks:
Finals: Burt Ward (could have been Benjamin Braddock in “The Graduate”) vs. Michael Madsen (could have been Vincent Vega in “Pulp Fiction.”)
Reasoning: Burt Ward, who played second fiddle to Adam West in TV’s “Batman,” could have used this platform to become a major star. Instead, “Batman” ended and he left the business shortly thereafter. Madsen just blew it. He could have had one of the coolest roles in one of the coolest movies to come along in decades. Nope. He’s probably still kicking himself
Ink staff picks:
Tom Selleck (Indiana Jones) over Gwyneth Paltrow — Annie Greenberg
Mickey Rourke (Axel Foley in “Beverly Hills Cop”) over Burt Reynolds (Bond) — Lindsay Hanson Metcalf
