With an areana full of women in fishnets and sexy costumes, there’s a lot of spectacle to photograph at a Kansas City Roller Warriors roller derby.
Buth when Phil Peterson picks out his favorite photos from the 100 or so bouts he’s shot during his four years freelancing for the group, his eye goes less for the theatrics and more for the athleticism and intensity he sees on the track.
`They want to win so badly,` he said.
They’ll get their chance at the top trophy Nov. 13-15 when they travel to Philadelphia to compete in the National Women’s Flat Track Derby Association’s Championships, which the Warriors won in 2007.
`I probably get as nervous as those girls do,` said Peterson, who’s going to shoot the tournament. `I put a lot of pressure on myself to shoot the games well.`
