This is Artificial Tangent, a source of all things nerd and subversive. Mostly we'll talk movies, but music, television, The Highlander comic books and the collected works of Danielle Steel are all on the agenda.

Wonder what Sarah Palin is thinking?

Better music. More sex appeal. Golly, the GOP has got it going on.

Update: A guide to Palin-guage ahead of her super important speech tonight.

The Republicans Are Bringing Sexy (and cool) Back?

In case you weren't glued to CSPAN last night during the Republican National Convention you may have missed something very interesting: The Republicans picked good music. ...

AC/DC's "Thunderstruck."

Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode."

Hats off to the GOPs.

They even got Rage Against the Machine back together!

What in the name of Ronald Reagan is going on?

This isn't my parents Republican National Convention. (No, if it were my parent's GOP convention, that would've probably been Amy Grant, Pat Boone and Jars of Clay.)

Whose Republican Party is this? Or, more importantly, WHAT Republican Party is this?

AC/DC? A 42-year-old attractive VP candidate who may or may not have strangled a freaking bear? A VP candidate that's caused some disturbing photoshop work on the INTERNETz? A teen-sex scandal? Rampant enjoyment of Hookers and Blow?

George Bush on teleconference only?

I'll tell you what Republicans these are: The Republicans that figured out what I've all known all along: Sex, drugs and rock n' roll sell. (They also realized that Bush seems to be carrying the plague.)

They also learned from Fox News that the people don't care what you say as long as very attractive females are saying it for you.

Back to the music choices between the convetions. The Dems stayed steady and true throughout with safe choices that would appeal to 50-year-old donors. Don't get me wrong, "I'm so excited/I just can't hide it/I'm about to lose control/and I think I like it" is a great line. And the Pointer Sisters are fun and all.

But that song is boring.

Compare it to the GOP's song of choice, "Thunderstruck." What's more motivational and Republican than: "those dancers who gave us good times/broke all the rules/played all the fools/yeah, yeah, they, they, they blew our minds/and I was shakin' at the knees/could I come again please?"

I bet that song was picked specifically by Karl Rove. That dude knows how to party.

Now, if only we could get them to figure out what's wrong with the economy while they're at it. Then, well, then those GOPs would just be off the chizarts.

Shamless plug: Day One of Cinemasochism is in the bag and it wasn't nearly as bad as you think. Read my "Lost Boys 2: The Tribe" review here.

Shamless plug part deux: Also this week in Ink, I map out the essential events for guys this fall. Read it here. Then read more stuff here.

Coming tomorrow (the shamless plug trifecta!): I now know why The Rock avoided "Scorpion King 2: The Rise of the Warrior" like it was covered in cancerous goo.

We start with the music and the women, and pretty soon you're saying things like "I think the tax cuts should be made permanent" and "Let's drill!" You'll come to the Dark Side sooner or later!
You make it sound as if Rage Against the Machine played for the Republicans at the convention. - They played outside where the "authorities" used tear gas and pepper spray on protesters.
I was well aware of that.
I know it’s satire, but you make me afraid that the Bible belt miasma is starting to soak into your brain! haha
