New 'boozy bookstore' in the River Market plans mid-June opening

Our Daily Nada plans to be a River Market gathering space.

Along with serving coffee and small plates, it will be a bookstore, a wine bar, a place to meet for book clubs and open mic nights, and more.

But owners Amy Covitz and Andrea Baca just call it a "boozy bookstore." They picked the River Market, figuring the same consumers who support the City Market vendors will likely support an independent bookstore. They also wanted to be in a walkable neighborhood.

The name is a play on the "give us this nada our daily nada" line in Ernest Hemingway's short story "A Clean Well-Lighted Place."

Along with coffee drinks using Broadway Roasting Co.'s coffee, it also will serve charcuterie and other small plates, soups, breakfast parfaits and some sandwiches. Carlos Mortera, owner and chef at the Bite in the City Market, is creating the menu.

Our Daily Nada also will offer French, Italian and Spanish wines.

It will have a bar along the north wall, bar counter on the front facing Delaware and bistro tables in the front area, then nooks filled with books and a back space with long wooden tables for gatherings.

The owners are both lawyers who worked together at an area law firm. But Covitz had longed to have a bookshop with a bar and passed on her enthusiasm for the concept to Baca.

Covitz also is married to Jeff Covitz, owner of Houndstooth men's clothier on the east side of the River Market.

Our Daily Nada is scheduled to open in mid-June at 304 Delaware St. It will be open Tuesday through Sunday.
