Are you guys ready? It’s a huge week for us. My calendar has me out at shows every night this week, and each night I’m in a different venue! Speaking of venues, we get a new one this week, the Truman, 601 E. Truman Road in the East Crossroads. We’re lucky to have so many great places to catch a show in this town.

09/12 U2 at Arrowhead

The biggest show of the year is Tuesday at Arrowhead, U2 with special guest Beck. It’s a bucket list show for nearly all music lovers. It’s the 30th anniversary of the Joshua Tree album and U2 is playing the album in its entirety followed by a set of new stuff and old favorites. The production will be top notch, like no other concert you’ve seen.

09/12 Beck at Arrowhead

And make sure you get there early to see Beck open up the night. He’s got a new album, “Colors” coming out on Oct. 13. We’re going to be one of the first audiences to hear new music from him and, as far as openers go, I’m not sure you could pick a better and more interesting act.

09/13 Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals at Uptown Theater

Ben Harper’s a force, a powerful performer with an open mind and free-flowing lyrics. He’s been gigging for decades. Don’t miss this chance to hear some of your favorite songs at an intimate show at the Uptown on Wednesday night.

09/14 The Mountain Goats/Kevin Morby at The Madrid

The Mountain Goats is really a moniker for the band’s frontman, John Darnielle. He writes twisting emotional songs with a wide vocabulary and delivers them in his distinct, unique, witty and nasally tone. It’s music for people who really love music and also love libraries. He’s a smart one, and it’s evident in his writing, which was honored on Paste magazine’s '100 Best Living Songwriters’ list. His 2016 performance at the Madrid was one of my favorite shows of the year. Last year when he played The Madrid it made my favorite shows of 2016 list, I’m expecting the same Thursday night.

09/16 Tech N9ne at The Truman (Grand opening)

When you’re opening a new venue in KC it makes sense to do it with one of the biggest names in KC. One of the most successful independent hip hop acts ever, the man needs no introduction. And as the biggest names in hip hop tour through town, they all stop their show to tip their hat to Tech N9ne, just like Kendrick Lamar recently did at his sold out Sprint Center show. I’m excited to get inside the Truman and check out our city’s newest a thousand capacity room.
